Welcome to SELFPrinciple.org. I created SELF Principle to bring the latest in evidence-based health, nutrition and wellness information to the public. There are no fad diets here, no rapid secrets to weight loss or longevity. This is the time-tested approach to a happy, healthy life through following 4 principles:
- Sleep is medicine: Get enough sleep (around 7-9 hours).
- Exercise is medicine: Move more throughout the day. A simple goal like 10,000 steps a day could be just what you need to feel great.
- Love is medicine: Show gratitude, make time for family and friends, meditate, and pass the gift of kindness to others. At the end of the day “life is 10% of what happens and 90% of how we react to it.”
- Food is medicine: Eat healthy, balanced meals composed of whole foods, plant-based. You don’t have to starve yourself and you don’t need to follow the latest fad to live a full and rich life. Just look at what the centenarians eat and adopt some of the same lessons for your life. Eat less red and processed meats, refined grains, sugar-sweetened foods, and beverages. Instead, focus on more whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, seeds, lentils.
